Salome

Mosaic
St. Mark's Basilica, Venice

This is an example of a Byzantine tradition of picturing Salome dancing while balancing on her head a platter with the head of John the Baptist. It is rare in the West, but many of the mosaics in St. Mark's were executed by artists from the East.
